Kite-Flying, Folk Play

Kite-flying is the play of flying it in the air at the end of a long string, being supported by the wind.

The main methods of kite-flying include high-flying, showing skills, loosing of kite, etc.

Our people used to play kite-flying from late autumn until the end of cold season. Kite-flying is popular in the period from the Lunar New Year’s Day to the first full moon day (January 15th of the lunar calendar).

There are several kinds of kite such as spotted kite, eight-angle kite and four-cornered kite.

Now our people like the rectangular four-cornered kite and the ray-like kite.

Kite-flying is inherited and developed as a traditional folk play.

Kite-flying was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage.
