Paddy-field fish farming method introduced in North Hwanghae Province

North Hwanghae Province is pushing ahead with the work to introduce the efficient paddy-field fish farming method with high economic effectiveness on an expansion basis. Officials of Unpha and Yonsan counties are encouraging farmers to turn out in the work, aware of the advantages of the Korean-style green cultivation and fish farming method. The Township Farm in Yonthan County, the Sinsong Farm in Singye County and the Township Farm in Thosan County have created favourable conditions for the growth of paddy rice by introducing the paddy-field fish farming method in this year’s farming. They are arousing the enthusiasm of farmers for scientific farming while encouraging them to exchange and share experience. Songnim City and Junghwa County have worked out the plans for expanding the areas of catfish farming in paddy fields and are securing good breeds of catfish and solving the feed problem. The Kupho Farm in Hwangju County is solving problems arising in raising the utilization rate of natural feed and the survival and fattening rates of catfish. Agricultural workers in Pongsan, Sangwon and Sohung counties are laying the material and technical foundations for fish farming in paddy fields while making a purposeful technical study of the proper density of fish per cubic metre of water, the selection of rational rice varieties and a scientific water control method. The Pyongyang Times, launched on May 6, 1965, is the DPRK's only English newspaper.
