Sowing of winter wheat and barley seeds began in the rural areas of the DPRK. South Hwanghae Province applied quality organic fertilizer to the farmland which has been increased by hundreds of hectares as compared with last year, and is sowing the seeds as scheduled. Maengsan, Nyongwon and Yangdok counties in South Phyongan Province have given priority to land treatment and initial manure application just after the corn harvest and increased the operating rate of sowing machines to sow seeds in large areas every day. Farms in Phihyon, Yomju and Nyongbyon counties of North Phyongan Province have secured high-yielding seeds and conducted drying, disinfection and other seed treatment in a scientific and technological way. Officials and agricultural workers in Jagang, Kangwon and North Hamgyong provinces are sowing wheat and barley seeds according to the biological characters of the varieties and soil conditions. The Pyongyang Times, launched on May 6, 1965, is the DPRK's only English newspaper.
