GCC denounces Israel’s military attack on Qatar

Article Content

The joint defence council of the Gulf Cooperation Council held a special meeting in Doha, Qatar, on September 18 to strongly condemn Israel for military attack on the country. The participants noted that the act of Israel is a wanton violation of the sovereignty and security of Qatar and a threat to regional stability. Referring to the attack on Qatar as that on all member nations of the council, they stressed that the council supports all measures taken by Qatar to fight against invasion, ensure its security and defend its unity and territorial integrity. The meeting decided to intensify information exchange through the unified military command, ensure the real-time transmission of aerial data, accelerate the development of a ballistic missile early warning system in the region and update defence plans. Also, it announced that the Gulf Cooperation Council would conduct joint anti-aircraft exercises within three months in order to further strengthen the collective defence capabilities. The joint defence council consists of defence officials of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.
