A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Defense decried the US policy hostile toward his country on October 17. The US Congress adopted a new “national defense authorization act” involving negative articles related to China. He branded it as an action of seriously interfering in China’s internal affairs, violating its sovereignty, security and development interests and wrecking global peace and stability. For the US to hold out the “Taiwan card” is as good as to play with fire, and to arm Taiwan is a dangerous gamble inevitably incurring terrible costs, he warned. He strongly urged the US to fully comply with the One China principle and the rules of the Three Joint Communiques signed by China and the US and stop having any form of military contact with the Taiwan region of China.
