The 2025-2026 DPRK men’s and women’s premier leagues started amid high expectations and interest of soccer experts and fans. It drew over 20 teams including men’s and women’s teams that had shown their power in the 2024-2025 DPRK men’s and women’s premier leagues and the men’s and women’s teams that were placed first in total at the second-division soccer tournaments in the last league season. Both men and women footballers of the April 25 Team won the 2024-2025 DPRK Premier League and its best player prizes were also awarded to the male and female players of the same team. But the male top scorer award went to the player of the Ryomyong Team and the female top scorer award and the best female goalkeeper award to the players of the Pyongyang Team. The 2025-2026 DPRK men’s and women’s premier leagues are to be held in three rounds like the previous ones. Then which teams will win them? As part of the first-round Premier League there was a match between the male players of Jebi and Wolmido teams atKim Il SungStadium on December 5. The Wolmido ranked ninth and Jebi 11th in the 2024-2025 DPRK men’s Premier League. Many spectators predicted that Wolmido, which had taken part in all the previous premier leagues, would defeat Jebi, which had participated in them only a few times. But the match ended with Jebi beating Wolmido2-1. The 2025-2026 DPRK men’s and women’s premier leagues are a hot topic among many people at the moment, attracting public interest with the estimates and results being reversed.
